Taking in Bath

A business trip to southwestern UK allowed me to stay at Bath, UK.   While Bath is a quick side trip from London, I find there are so many things to see and do in London that a trip to Bath really needs to be a separate trip, in order to enjoy it fully.  An excursion to Bath can easily be coupled with a trip to Stonehenge and/or the Salisbury Cathedral to see a copy of the Magna Carta.

As my business colleague and I were not driving in the UK, we opted to take the train to Bath.  If London traffic is bad the 1:20 hour trip via train is likely faster than driving.   We grabbed our train from London’s Paddington station and in no time, we disembarking in Bath.

A quick stroll to our hotel, we dropped off our gear and began our sightseeing in earnest.  We started with the Bath Cathedral and then caught the Bus to Stonehenge. I did enjoy seeing Stonehenge, but didn’t have or feel any magical aura and after the first 20 pictures you realize it is just a circle of rocks. Amazing history, but how long can you look and stare at rocks?

Unfortunately, the tour times available were right in the middle of the afternoon which didn’t allow us time to get to Stonehenge and back in time to make a tour. Oh well, I guess it is always good to leave a little something for the next visit. Given this was also our arrival day we were exhausted from travel, we walked to a local recommended restaurant to grab a delicious meal at Sotto Sotto and then headed back to hotel for a well deserved rest.   Along the way were beautiful shots of Bath lit up at night.

Early the next morning I arose before my colleague and grabbed a few pictures around the town before the work day started in earnest. Known for it’s mineral springs, Bath became a “hot spot” for the wealthy to come visit and take in the restorative powers of the hot springs. Some of the Georgian architecture is shown in the areas around town. One of these is the Royal Crescent with its sweeping panorama. Bath is also know as the residence of its most famous author, Jane Austin.

I hope you enjoyed the pictures of Bath and Stonehenge.  Let me know if this makes you want to explore Bath too!
