The Sane Adventurer

Why the Sane Adventurer?   The focus of my blog is to share my travel experiences, successes and failures with the average traveler.   I am not an extreme traveler trying to go to out of the way places and doing exotic or dangerous activities for thrill seeking. Rather I am your average person who has been afforded the opportunity to travel both for business and for pleasure.   For most of the business trips, I had anywhere from 12-24 hours of “free” time when traveling abroad and usually less free time domestically.   My goal was to make the most of opportunities presented and expand my cultural, historical or geographic knowledge. I hope you can take some of my learnings and that they help you avoid problems allowing you to make the most of your travels.  Check out my blog posts listed on the menu above to see individual adventures

Business travel also afforded me with a semi-controlled experience to put a metaphoric toe in the local water without getting in over my head.  Usually, we were with local guests who provided us with directions, took us to dinner and gave us an insider’s perspective of the city.   These business experiences were a sound foundation and a natural springboard for my personal travel with family, as often it can be daunting if you don’t know the city, language, or layout.  Hopefully, by sharing some of my experiences I can help demystify traveling allowing it to be easier, more relaxing and enjoyable.

If you are looking to dangle off the side of the Himalayas or experience cave diving across all 7 continents, then this likely isn’t the blog for you.   However, if you are a typical middle to older aged couple or family, then I hope to help you spend your time more at ease and be less stressed. This is a work in progress and appreciate any feedback.

I enjoy travel for both business and pleasure trying to learn about other cultures and enjoy historical places. I am an avid amateur photographer and like most travelers don’t have the luxury of days of preparation. I have to take what I can, when I can making the most of the situations presented. Hopefully, some stories and images inspire others to travel and learn more.

Here I am with daughters in the Vatican learning history and viewing artworks. After Rome, Paris, and London they asked nicely if we could skip another Church for a while. Oh well, maybe a bit of balance between shopping, relaxation and learning when with the family!

“Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness, and many of our people need it sorely on these accounts. Broad, wholesome, charitable views of men and things cannot be acquired by vegetating in one little corner of the earth all one’s lifetime”

Mark Twain
